Selecting the proper plants is one of the most important elements when creating your landscape, keeping in mind the FYN principle “Right Plant, Right Place.” This will determine the level of maintenance, water, fertilizer and pesticides that will be required. Using native plants is a great concept, considering that they are already adapted to our south Florida conditions. One of the worst problems homeowners encounter is finding nurseries that carry native plants. Below is a list of native plant nurseries and some garden centers in south Florida. Some local chain garden centers will special order plants; you need to specify exactly what you need. Be sure to call ahead for hours or if an appointment is required.
