December 2011– Regular Meeting Minutes

Minutes of the November meeting were approved.
Treasurer’s Report: (amount available at monthly meeting)
Budget for the Palm Beach Beekeepers Conference estimated at $7,075.00 approved by vote. Members gave their approval in September 2011 for the conference to be held.
Leonard thanked the internal auditors, Les Vrabel and Karin Ross for their audit report on the association treasury. Auditor’s findings included the purchase of a computer with accounting software for the treasurer to maintain the association’s books. Estimate for computer, accounting software, and training of $1,200 was voted on and approved by the members.
Amendment to article 7 of the constitution to change the discretionary spending from $100 to $300 was presented to the membership and will be voted on next month.
Leonard mentioned that the board is researching securing liability insurance to cover the members during all association related activities such as outreach where we bring live bees into a classroom. Leni Bane asked if the South Florida Fair or Pine Jog would cover us under their umbrella policy. Brian Lundblad asked if the FSBA insurance would cover us under their policy.
Association T-shirts are available for sale for $10.00 after the meeting.
Hospitality committee chair Charlene Nakamura appointed.
Welcome committee chair Nedra Obradovich appointed.

Outreach:
The Rare Fruit Council approached the association to partner with them in showing of the movie “Vanishing of the Bees” with a question and answer period afterward with the movies director on February 10th. The cost of our participation of $150.00 was approved by vote of the membership.
Update on the South Florida Fair: Most of the time slots have been filled but there are still some times when no one has signed up. Members were encouraged to review the schedule on our web site and fill in the remaining slots. January 7th is the date for the booth setup. Volunteers are encouraged to come out and help set up the booth.
