Board Minutes of PBC Beekeepers
September 3, 2011
Called to order: 5:45 PM
Present: Len Khan, Jim Chapman, Sara White, Christine Schwartz
August board minutes were approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Total Funds of (amount available at monthly meeting)
Beginners Training- The next session will take place at Pine Jog Environmental on Saturday,
September 10 from 9:30-12:00. A sign up will be available at the next members meeting.
Library books not returned: There was some discussion about creating an amendment to the constitution regarding membership being terminated if a book is not returned within 3 months.
There was agreement first to table the issue, then it was decided that there already is a clause in the constitution about members showing upstanding behavior. If a book is not returned, that member would be contacted and ultimately terminated if a book is not returned.
Membership Dues: Due to FSBA and the IRS, there will be a motion to members to change the constitution to have PBC Beekeepers follow the same fiscal year as both FSBA and the IRS.
Members may pay in advance but membership dues, if approved by membership, will cover January to December. Those individiuals joining after June will have the benefit of membership from June to December in addition to the following fiscal year.
If an individual wants to join PBC Beekeepers and is already a member of FSBA, the dues will only be $5.
since FSBA dues have already been paid $15.
Committees: There was discussion and agreement to replace Article 7, Item 6 from the old constitution to restore a greeter and hospitality chairperson. As our organization grows, these positions are deemed necessary.
Logo Design and shirts: It was decided that the board would follow the suggestion of Stonewashed denim for the T-shirt which would contrast the logo. It was also decided that the association would only have T-shirts available for now. An embroidered polo shirt is an additional possibility in the future.
Jim will laison with Kellan on this matter. They will finalize a choice of company and have a sample(s) available for the next meeting.
Name Tags: After discussion of magnetic vs clip on name tags, it was voted that the association would supply clip-on name tags free of charge to members. The clip on type are significantly more economical.
Jim will coordinate this with Kellan.
S Florida Fair: Sara to read new labeling requirements on honey to see if our association needs to change our labels.
- A volunteer sign-up sheet for times will be circulated at the meetings beginning 9/3/11 and at the October and November meetings as well. In addition, there will be an electronic sign-up available on the Yahoo site. Sara will update this site. A final list is needed by the Fairgrounds in December.
The board meeting to plan both the S Fl Fair and the annual conference was changed to Wednesday,
